Compact, flexible and suitable for laboratory applications up to 200 bar and 300 °C

When scaling up chemical syntheses or testing severe reaction parameters, researchers often face a tough tradeoff: choosing between low-volume benchtop autoclaves that limit yield or expensive, highly complex pilot reactors that consume valuable floor space and budget.

The new maxiclave® high-pressure reactor system by Buchiglas (Büchi AG) bridges this gap. Engineered specifically for demanding high-pressure and high-temperature research, the maxiclave® brings 200 bar rating, 300 °C operation, and flexible 0.5 L and 1.0 L capacities to a compact benchtop setup.

Tailored for your workflow: key configurations

Whether your research involves simple liquid-phase reactions or complex, mass-transfer-limited gas-liquid syntheses, the maxiclave® system adapts to your experimental design without requiring separate reactor setups.

  1. Non-stirred maxiclave®: Ideal for static aging, material tests, and basic reactions where mixing can be handled via internal magnetic stir bars on a standard lab hot plate.
  2. Stirred maxiclave® drive: Powered by the integrated cyclone 075 dc magnetic stirrer drive (75 Ncm torque), providing dynamic, hermetically sealed agitation for hydrogenations, polymerizations, and gas-liquid reactions.

Dual configuration on a single base frame

Most competitive systems force you to buy entirely separate reactor bodies for static vs. stirred configurations. The maxiclave® uses identical, interchangeable 0.5 L and 1.0 L vessels for both the non-stirred and stirred drive setups.

Advantage: Start with an economical non-stirred unit and seamlessly upgrade to a full magnetic drive system as your project requirements expand.

Space-saving cyclone 075 dc magnetic drive

Rather than using bulky external motors connected via flexible shafts or belt drives, Buchiglas integrates the motor, speed controller, and high-torque magnetic coupling into a single compact housing.

Advantage: Offers 75 Ncm torque with zero shaft leak risks, digital speed monitoring, and a reduced footprint inside the fume hood.

Engineered for operator safety & ergonomics

Operating at 200 bar requires robust, heavy steel components. Büchi provides a dedicated ergonomic handling stand.

Advantage: Allows lab personnel to mount, open, and manipulate the cover plate and vessel smoothly, reducing physical strain and minimizing handling risks.

Multi-method heating & cooling (unjacketed versatility)

Instead of locking your lab into a fixed oil jacket or proprietary heating block, the maxiclave® vessel is unjacketed and compatible with:

  1. Standard laboratory hot plates
  2. High-performance electric heating sleeves
  3. Liquid bath thermostats (for operations down to -10 °C)

Advantage: Lowers total cost of ownership, speeds up thermal cycling, and simplifies maintenance.

Cost-effective corrosion control

In addition to solid Hastelloy® options, the maxiclave® supports drop-in, replaceable PTFE (Teflon) inserts.

Advantage: Run aggressive acids and halogenated reactions without committing to full exotic-alloy replacement vessels.

Primary Applications

Designed to handle both routine batching and advanced research, the maxiclave® excels in:

  • Process scale-up: Bridging micro-scale screening (such as the 100–300 ML miniclave drive®) to pilot production.
  • Gas-liquid reactions: Hydrogenation, carbonation, and gasification.
  • Energy & sustainability research: Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS), biomass/biofuel conversion, and biopolymer synthesis.
  • Specialty chemicals: API synthesis, crystallization, nanoparticle synthesis, and supercritical fluids (like CO2, etc.)

Upgrade your high-pressure capabilities

Whether you are designing a new process or optimizing existing scale-up parameters, the maxiclave® provides the Swiss precision engineering and safety standards required for demanding laboratory environments.
