Compact, flexible and suitable for laboratory applications up to 200 bar and 300 °C
Büchi AG has developed the new maxiclave® for research and process development where high pressure and temperature play a key role. This compact laboratory pressure reactor is suitable for applications up to 200 bar and 300 °C and offers flexibility thanks to interchangeable 0.5- and 1.0-litre reactor vessels.
The maxiclave® is available in a non-stirred version and in a version with magnetic stirring via a Cyclone 075 DC drive, called the maxiclave® drive. This allows the configuration to be tailored to the specific application and the desired process conditions.
For a wide range of applications
The maxiclave® has been developed for a wide range of research and development applications requiring controlled pressure and temperature conditions. Examples include:
- hydrogenation and other gas-liquid reactions;
- catalyst testing and evaluation;
- polymerisation;
- crystallisation;
- research into biomass and biopolymers;
- research into carbon capture and storage (CCS);
- materials research and corrosion testing;
- process development and API synthesis.
Thanks to the combination of its compact laboratory-scale design and its relatively high pressure and temperature limits, the reactor can be used for experiments in which process conditions need to be investigated in detail before further upscaling takes place.
Flexible in terms of design and choice of materials
The reactor vessels are available in stainless steel and, optionally, in Hastelloy®. PTFE inserts are available for applications involving aggressive or corrosive media. An ergonomic stand is also available, which makes it easier to handle the reactor vessel and the lid plate.
For the non-stirred version, the medium can be mixed using a magnetic stirrer. Heating can be carried out using, for example, a laboratory hotplate, a thermostatic bath or electric heating jackets.
From laboratory research to process development
The choice of a suitable reactor depends heavily on the process conditions and the aim of the research. Pressure, temperature, material compatibility, mixing and the properties of the medium all determine which reactor configuration is required.
As a partner of Büchi AG, Suurmond assists with the selection and configuration of reactor solutions for laboratory and process development. In addition to standard pressure reactors, Büchi also supplies reactor solutions that can be further tailored to specific process requirements.
Would you like to know whether the maxiclave® is suitable for your application, or are you looking for a reactor for research under high pressure and temperature? If so, please contact Suurmond to discuss your process and the required conditions.
